A pivotal moment in the history of the Ghana Gas Senior Staff Association (GGSSA) occurred during the “MONTIE” Demonstration on August 26th, 2016 – Members of the Ghana Gas Local Union stood in solidarity with our executives to protest substandard working conditions. This peaceful strike resulted in the suspension of some staff directly involved, despite the prior notice to all pertinent parties. However, this heroic position led to considerable adjustments in the working environment for all GNGLC employees. Though the strike resulted in the dismissal, termination, suspension and salary forfeiture (for a number of months), it marked a critical milestone of the GGSSA and a testament to the bravery of members who fought resiliently for improvements and the benefit of the entire workforce.

The GGSSA Executives for the 2019-2022 tenure launched the inaugural GGSSA Week Celebration on July 19th-22nd 2022, aimed at promoting solidarity, as well as publicizing the association as a whole. On this, the 2022-2025 Executive body has decided to dedicate the last week of August each year to commemorate and celebrate the whole GGSSA membership and also in honour of those who put their careers on the line during the 2016 “MONTIE” demonstration.
